Qantas and Perth Airport: A New Era of Collaboration
After years of contention, Qantas and Perth Airport have finally reached an agreement, marking the beginning of a new chapter in their relationship. Today, Qantas announced a groundbreaking 12-year commercial deal with Perth Airport, transforming it into a major international and domestic hub for both Qantas and its low-fare subsidiary, Jetstar. This ambitious project is expected to cost approximately AU$5 billion ($3.3 billion).
A Western Gateway to Australia
A significant part of this long-term agreement involves Perth Airport committing around AU$3 billion ($2 billion) to develop new terminal facilities and construct a new parallel runway, scheduled to be operational by 2028. These upgrades are designed to support ultra-long-haul flights and will include enhancements to gates to accommodate the Qantas Project Sunrise Airbus A350s, set to arrive in 2026.
This partnership not only signifies a mending of fences but also heralds a significant investment in the future of air travel in Australia, promising enhanced connectivity and state-of-the-art infrastructure for travelers.
