The Flight Safe Mode. What does it do?

Smart phones have become the number 1 mobile phone over the past few years and with social media now allowing users to go live on various platforms maybe it’s a good idea to talk about the flight safe mode.

The flight safe mode is setting on the device which disables the communication part of your device which will stop communications coming in or going out.

During your flight the cabin crew will advise you to ensure that your portable electronic devices are in the flight safe mode. Usually once the cabin doors have been closed.

Mobile phones transmit on radio waves and can interfere with other transmission equipment such as radios & instruments. You’ve probably noticed this at home if you’ve been listening to the radio and your mobile phone rings. You get a strange noise sometimes.

But my plane has WiFi?

If your plane is fortunate enough to have WiFi on board you must place your phone in the flight safe mode and then just enable the WiFi setting on your devise. WiFi uses different channels therefore making it safe to use. However, WiFi on board can be quite expensive.

My flight will be boring without my phone

There are loads of apps that you can download for free these days and download the shows/ movies at home and watch them on your journey. Some aircraft’s have in flight entertainment systems which are free to use.
