Happy Anniversary to Wizz Air

The European low-cost carrier Wizz Air is celebrating its 20th anniversary of operations, serving more than 400 million passengers over the past two decades.

May 19, 2004, marks a significant milestone for Wizz Air as the budget airline launched its inaugural flight from Katowice Airport (KTW) in Poland to London Luton Airport (LTN). Since then, the airline has grown from operating a single Airbus A320 to a fleet of 211 aircraft, serving 200 destinations in 53 countries.

Founded by József Váradi and six other entrepreneurs, Wizz Air was designed to follow the low-cost carrier model from its inception. Initially targeting the emerging low-cost market in Central and Eastern Europe, the airline, headquartered in Budapest, quickly established itself as a leading provider of connectivity and accessibility across the region.
