Next Stop Wevelgem – EBKT

Next Stop Wevelgem – EBKT

Well next week takes me off to Europe. Although most of it won’t be aviation related there is one added bonus. I’m staying directly opposite an airport on this occasion so I hope I’ll be able to bring you some content from there.

I’ll be staying in Wevelgem in Belgium. Flanders Airport or Kortrijk Wevelgem Airport as it’s known was first opened in 1916 by the Germans during the First World War. The airport offers a passenger terminal which passenger airplanes can land at, however police presence and customs officers must be arranged on demand.

The runway at EBKT is in the direction of 06/24. It is 1900 metres long or 6234ft and is made of asphalt.

Once at my base I will be switching on the SBS Radar Box and beginning to populate aircraft’s in the area. This will be first time that the radar has been used abroad.

Finally for this blog I’d just like to say thank you very much to my host in advance for the opportunity of visiting this area. I’m sure there will be some pictures to follow up on this blog.
