Poor visibility’ caused more than 20 flight cancellations at Heathrow

Severe weather at the UKs largest airport London Heathrow on Friday morning caused Air Traffic Control to close the Runways to Landing & Departing aircrafts.

British Airways grounded 18 flights, while Aer Lingus, Air France and Lufthansa also cancelled departures.

Some inbound aircraft had to fly extended holding patterns while waiting for a slot to land. An American Airlines flight from Dallas was 20 miles south of Heathrow at 6.54am, but could not land for over half-an-hour.
