Inside the aircraft Part 1- Chimes & Lights What does that mean?

Many of you will be sitting on a plane and thinking what was that sound? What did that mean? In this short blog I’ll be sharing what different sounds and announcements mean.

Chimes after takeoff

1st – Landing gear is being retracted

2nd – Cabin Crew begin duties

3rd Seat belt sign extinguished.

Coloured coded lights on Exit Signs

You may also have noticed the three lights located around the aircraft cabin usually below the exit signs on the aircraft. This is used for cabin crew to communicate without passenger know what they are saying. So here are some of the most common codes.

If a blue light appears, this means a passenger has pressed the call button at their seat and needs attention. this will also illuminate a blue button above the passengers seat so they flight attendant knows who has pressed the call button.

An orange light means someone has pressed the call button in the toilets, although if it flashes it means the smoke alarm has been activated.

If they see a pink light, this means there is a phone call that needs to be answered, with a flashing one meaning a group call between crew and all attendants must answer.
